Earlier this year (2022), the European Museum of Modern Art in Spain (the MEAM) honored Shane with his first career retrospective, A Tour de Force. Until very recently Shane maintained a working studio in Paris, France. In 2004 he embarked on a 16-month around the world trip which ultimately led him to Florence, Italy, where he remained in order to study at the Angel Academy of Art from 2005 to 2009. After receiving his bachelor's degree in Design from University of Cincinnati (DAAP) in 2000 he joined Salomon SAS in Annecy, France, as a graphic designer. Shane Wolf was born in 1976 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His exhibition record includes numerous solo exhibitions across the US, as well as many national and international juried exhibitions. White's work has been published in National Geographic, and featured by Wired, Mother Nature Network, Scientific American, Don’t Take Pictures, The Hand, and Gizmodo. Joshua White is an Associate Professor of Photography and the Fine Art Photography Coordinator at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. Participants will create 4x5 and 8x10 plates using natural light and studio strobes, while surveying such topics as: t he history of the photographic medium using the view camera creating tintypes and ambrotypes and the possibilities of natural and studio lighting, and much more. Using traditional and experimental methods over the course of two days, students will have the opportunity to investigate the possibilities of the handmade photograph, the poetics of place, and the photograph as object.
